Humble Ourselves and Pray For America

The rockets will soon burst in the night sky as we finish our picnics and family gatherings and celebrate the 249th birthday of the United States. The flags will wave, patriotic songs will rise, and we’ll once again say, “God bless America!”
Oh, how we need the Lord's blessing today. As we celebrate the birth of our nation, we remember the price of freedom—the blood of patriots shed on battlefields so we could live free. But more importantly, we remember the price of greater freedom: the blood of Jesus Christ shed on the cross so we could live forever.
Today, as we celebrate, let us remember that America is still one of the greatest nations to ever exist. For all of our issues, problems, and even our spiritual decline, we are blessed as Christians to live in this country. I’ve traveled all over the world, and there is no place like the USA.
With that thought, this is the hour for the Church to awaken again. This is a time that we pray boldly to the Lord for our country, return to the values rooted in Scripture, stand boldly with Israel, and repent and yearn for a spiritual awakening.
“If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land” (2 Chronicles 7:14 ESV).
America’s greatest need is not another election, another law, or another revolution. America’s greatest need is Jesus. The hope of this nation isn’t found in Washington, DC. Instead, it’s found on the hill of Calvary where the Son of God declared, “It is finished.”
As fireworks explode in the night sky, remember: The red reminds us of Christ’s blood, the white proclaims His forgiveness, and the blue points us to heaven’s coming glory.
This Independence Day, let’s do more than wave the flag. Let’s raise the banner of Christ and pray for our nation to turn back to God. Let’s live as free people delivered from the yoke of slavery, who are not bound to sin but surrendered to the Savior. And let’s look forward to the day when the King of kings will return to establish his Kingdom here on earth.
Let’s be the Church that is Awake, Aware, and Awaiting the return of Jesus Christ.
A Prayer for America
“Lord Jesus, thank You for the freedoms we enjoy in this land. But more than that, thank You for the ultimate freedom You purchased on the cross. Heal our nation, awaken Your Church, and turn hearts back to You. Let revival sweep this land from sea to shining sea, and may Your kingdom come and Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. In Jesus’ mighty name we pray. Amen.”
