Freedom in a World of Broken Boundaries

This week, we will cover part three of Modern Satanism. This sermon covers a sobering yet hope-filled message: “How the Enemy Destroys Identity, Innocence, and Hope—But Christ Brings Freedom.” From the very beginning, God established loving boundaries to protect us. His Word is not a cage but a covering. When we live within the framework of His design, we find life, purpose, and blessings.

Louis Zamperini was an Olympic runner turned WWII bombardier. His plane crashed in the Pacific, and he survived 47 days on a life raft, only to be captured and tortured in a Japanese prison camp for two brutal years. One guard in particular, nicknamed “The Bird,” humiliated him relentlessly, trying to break him, blind him, and strip him of all dignity- Nahash-style oppression (1 Samuel 11).

After the war, Louis came home a broken man. Tormented by nightmares, driven by rage and alcoholism, his life was collapsing. He was alive but blind. He had survived the war but was still a prisoner inside. Then everything changed.

At the urging of his wife, he attended a Billy Graham crusade in 1949. On the first night, he stormed out.  But the second night, the Spirit of God rushed into the room, and Louis surrendered to Christ. In his words, “I forgave my captors… and the moment I did, I knew I was free.” He went from being tortured, tormented, and blind… to joyfully free in Jesus Christ. That’s what the Spirit does.

Today, we are living in a culture where biblical boundaries are being torn down at an alarming rate. Moral, sexual, and even physical gender lines are being erased from God’s design. The enemy’s strategy hasn’t changed as he still whispers the same lie he told in Eden: “Did God really say?” His aim is always to confuse identity, corrupt innocence, and crush hope.

We see Satan's influence on culture as it redefines truth, celebrates rebellion, and attacks children, families, and morality itself. But the Gospel proclaims that Christ brings freedom and liberty from the bondage of sin.

Jesus came to restore what Satan tried to steal. Where the enemy brings devastation, Jesus brings redemption. This Sunday, we’ll explore how to stand firm in a world that has lost its way and how to reclaim identity, innocence, and hope in Christ.

This is a message we all need. For ourselves, our families, for the next generation.
